The aft deck is coming together nicely. The main span of the helm bulkhead has new mahogany veneer. The overhead mahogany panels and radio box turned out very nicely. The Whisper Wall headliner and lights are wonderful. I’ve got mahogany plywood covering the framing and insulation on the lower port walls, and recently I got the starboard helm cabinet installed. Next I need to wrap up the bulkhead with a complicated little piece on the port side, then I’ll be ready to make the last cabinet.

This 1/8″ mahogany plywood makes for nice veneer
This LLoyd’s 1088 rated mahogany ply uses boil-proof, waterproof glue. And at ~$50/sheet, it’s about half the price of paper-backed ribbon stripe veneer.

First, rough-cut the left side and start sliding it into position

That’s about right

Cut off the excess

Sand smooth with Mirka 240 grit Abranet
I don’t know what happened to the pictures of the panel getting varnished, but it happened!

Next, I wetted out the backside of the veneer and the bulkhead with epoxy

Wood flour-thickened epoxy makes a super strong veneer glue

Next day, the clamps came off
That turned out pretty good!
